Akademie Antiqua is based on various typographic traces found at Munich’s art academy and the streets around. As an artist in residence at Akademie der Bildenden Künste München, Stefanie researched about former type design professor Fritz Helmut Ehmcke (1878–1965) and viewed further type-related archive material. At the same time she collected typographic snippets on her daily walks in Munich and along Akademiestrasse. This visual research was translated into a unicase typeface that combines traditional, elegant shapes with rough and anarchic elements reflecting the academy’s history and attitude over the last two centuries.
